Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Badger Ham sold?
We are distributed throughout the state of Wisconsin and in parts of Illinois. If you don’t see us at the meat counter or in the deli case at your local grocery store don’t be afraid to ask for us! Your support is crucial to our business and we are happy to work with local grocers to get them our product!
Is Hot Ham and Rolls a Wisconsin thing?
Absolutely. Originating from South Eastern Wisconsin, it’s grown into a regional tradition since the late 1940s. Learn more about the history of this here: https://www.wuwm.com/economy-business/2017-04-07/a-milwaukee-obsession-sunday-hot-ham-rolls.
Can you freeze a Badger Ham?
In a pinch, you can freeze our hams, but we don’t recommend it. Fresh is always better.
How do you cook ham?
All our hams can follow these general guidelines: To serve warm, preheat oven to 325°F. Place ham on a rack inside a deep cooking pan with 1-cup of water in the pan. Tightly cover with tin foil and heat for about 15 minutes per pound, or cooked to an internal temperature of 130°F. Do not overheat. (Feel free to top with your favorite additions—such as pineapple or brown sugar—prior to putting it in the oven.) If you already have sliced ham, simply follow the above instructions, but put the sliced product directly in the pan. Please note that it may cook faster than a whole ham).
Does Badger Ham have a retail and/or factory outlet location?
Unfortunately, we do not. Please work with your local grocer for custom orders of our products.
Is Badger Ham independently owned?
Yes, we are a fourth-generation family-owned and operated business. A subsidiary or hedge fund does not own us, we have not sold to a larger company.
What is the tastiest ham to buy?
We could talk about this all day and often do. We think you should start by asking the question smoked or not smoked? After that, it’s all personal preference. Our favorite tends to be the traditional and simple Badger Cooked Ham. Underappreciated for sure!
Does Badger Ham make Christmas and Easter Hams?
Yes. We make bone-in hams on a seasonal basis. Don’t be afraid to call ahead and place your order with your local grocer.
